Challenges for wind power in SA

Speaker: Craig Oakeshott, SKM

Craig recently prepared a paper for the international clean energy ministers’ forum on the lessons learned from the high penetration of wind in SA. While wind development in the State has exceeded initial estimates, and the rate of development has slowed, there is still significant potential for further development and a number of active developers ready to move. This presentation examines lessons learned and potential future challenges that ongoing development may present.

Craig is a mechanical engineering graduate from Adelaide University and has almost 30 years of experience in the electricity industry. Over the last 15 years Craig worked for the Electricity Supply Industry Planning Council and AEMO and was heavily involved in understanding the high level issues that have faced South Australia with respect to its participation in the National Electricity Market. He has also represented the State’s interests on National review bodies and supported SA government and industry in the ongoing development, regulation and operation of electricity generation and energy transmission and distribution in the State.
